Scanning

I haven’t posted many new documents to the site lately, as I’ve been scanning photos and letters sent by Cousin Larry Marshall. It is fascinating to receive a new cache of information. Here are more pieces to the puzzle of who we were. New photos of cousins - some living, some dead. There is a portrait photograph of Samuel Jasper Marshall - one that I have never seen before. There are photographs of the grandchildren of William Harvey Marshall. As a general rule, you will not see photos of living people on this site. There will be a few exceptions.

Pettiscountypioneers depends on the collective knowledge of the descendants of those original pioneers. There is plenty of room for expansion. You retain all rights to information, and, if it is of interest to you, it is probably also of interest to me.

Today’s update includes of photograph of Isaac Francis Elliott on horseback. Ike lost his right foot either shortly before or shortly after this photo was taken. As soon as he could, he got right back on his horse and rode into Sedalia. Later pictures, however, show him confined to a wheelchair.

There is also a photograph of Mary Frances Elliott ready for her first day of first grade. She was five years old. She went to school with her lunch pail and her slate. She walked the two miles barefoot. In winter, she rode horseback. She talked about how, in the winter, she’d have to get down from her horse to knock the balls of ice from his hooves with her ruler.
