Pettis County Pioneers WELCOME TO PETTISCOUNTYPIONEERS.COM
This site celebrates those intrepid souls who first settled Pettis County, Missouri. It is intended for all of the descendants of those early settlers, for historians seeking a more accurate picture of the lives of those settlers, and for current Pettis Countians interested in their county’s past. Our pioneer families came to Missouri by wagon train in waves primarily from Kentucky, Virginia, and North and South Carolina. Some settled in other places. Then, for whatever reason, they moved on to Pettis County. Others came first to settle in this central Missouri place and, finding it cold and inhospitable, left for a new start in a warmer, wealthier clime. Some came and stayed; their descendants live on, or near, the original family homesteads.

This site gathers together the stories, photos and documents of some of the first families of Pettis County. The descendants of these families are invited to explore the archives, read the letters, examine the photographs, learn about their ancestors and connect with living relatives.

Without the contributions of many, many people, this site would not be possible. If you have pictures, stories or documents of your own that you would like to contribute, please contact the administrator by clicking on the “Email Me” button. We welcome any information that will make the site more interesting or accurate.
