Miss F. Marshall,
                pleasure
Dear Cousin    it is with  that i take present opertunity of adressing you a few
lines which I hope will come safe to hand and will find you all in good health - this epistle leaves myself with the rest of the family in good health with the exception of James Madison’s boy - he is chilling occasionally John Cook’s family is in good health. John H’s also with the exception of himself. he was taken with the billious Colick about two weeks ago He was taken sick in the night and got up and went to the fire and began to throw up and fainted and fell in the fire and burned himself very badly he burned one leg and his left hand - he has not been able to bare any weight on his leg yet and i expect it will be several weeks before he can go about or resume his business the rest of the connection are all well as far as i know. John H has a fine daughter they call her El---  louella she is about four months old she is the prettiest child I almost ever saw now but enough on that subject I will tell you something about the crops etc. The farmers of this County have made very good corn crops that is in this County they have made penty to do in this County and some to spare though it is not so in every County but we have made very light cotton crops. off of about 25 acres we will gather about 2 1/2 bales . . I think  the farmers of Texas will have to abandon cotton raising altogether  I will now give you the prices that property is selling at in general . . good horses is selling from $100 two $100 and fifty dollars per head young mules at weaning time from sixty to seventy five dollars per head..good cows from $15 two 25 dollars per head and all other property in proportion corn is selling from one dollar to a dollar and a quarter per bushel and there is very little wheat to be sold in this part of the county, (enough) about the prices . .Conference was holden at Jeffereson. this year about sixty miles from here. We have the same preacher on our circuit this year that we had last his name is terry . . He is a very good preacher and seems to be a very pious man. We were all well pleased with him last year. We received a letter from Isabella and logan about two weeks ago they said they were all well. Dear Cousin i would like to see you very much if orphila ever goes back to that country i want you to come home with him and spend two or three months with us..Orphila says to tell  Augustus to come out here this winter. He says -------since he is not married yet but he says for him to come out here and he will take him to see his sweet heart he says she is the petyest girl in texas tell Alexander to come out here i have the petiest little girl picked out for him he almost ever saw. her name is Miss Sally Comb. Mary there is more pity boys in Texas than a few. James Madison says he is going to marry in about two weks but i think he is a Jesting. James Madison went out to arkansas to Aunt Isabellas he said they were all well and getting on very very well.
