Dear Cousin
I embrace the present oppotyunity to drop you a few lines to let you know that I am well at present and hope this may find you enjoying the same like blessing or better if possible. I arrived home safe and sound after a long and fatiguing journey and found all well.
I got to Warsaw about Three O’Clock the first day and the next day in the Twenty Mile Prairie and the next I arrives at Robinsons, about Noon and stayed there until Monday morning and there young Robinson started with me. We traveled on until we arrived at Springfield where we met up with Lewis about two O’clock and found him well and in high spirits. We got along very well then until we arrived in the Nation. The first night we stayed in the Nation 7 miles beyond Fort Smith where we found very good fare such as potatoes and spoilt beef and warm water instead of coffee. We traveled on next day and cracked a few jokes until evening when Lo and Behold night came on and we found lodgeing for the night where we had very good fare. Myself and Lewis bedded together and Robinson and a very likely hound and the next night we stayed at Sprawlses (or lay out) and then we got along very well untill we arrived home. Lewis two horses was able to carry him home. I swapped off the Parson before I got home. I swapped with young Robinson. I got a horse worth seventy five Dollars more than the Parson and two months work to boot. When I arrived home I found my Father gone with his beef. He had to carry them three hundred miles and sold at about eighteen Dollars per head. He started about the first of September and arrived home the fifteenth of October. They were at Michels* and they were all well. Mother went with them to Aunts. I arrived at home the 29th of Sept and found people a gathering their crops which were very good.
Well Alex I have some very good advice which I never have used up and I will give it to you and that is for you to marry and go to making money. Tell Miss Nancy not to swap off Frank for I am coming out there after the pony and the boot. I have to bring my letter to a close give my best respects to all. H. McComic* and Lady and George Parish and Lady. Excuse my foolishness and spelling and Write as soon as the nature of the case will admit. I remain.
                                                                    Yours until death
                                                                    S.O. Brown
