Mr. Augustus Marshall
Dear Cousin
I avail myself of the present oportunity of writing you a few lines to let you know that I am well at present. All the rest of the family are well with the exception of bad colds. I hope these few lines may reach and find you injoying the best of health. We have had a very pleasant winter that is we have had but very little cold weather but a great deal of wet weather. It has not snowed here but once this winter. People are preparing their ground for planting. In this county fruit trees are almost in bloom: I think this will be the forwardest spring that i ever saw in this country. There is scarcely any sickness in this neighborhood at present. There have been some few cases of pneumonial the prevailing sickness is bad colds and influenza. We had quite an --and lively time here during Christmas...i will now give you some of the prices of produce. Mules are worth some $100 to $150 dollars per head, horses about the same cows and calves from 15 to twenty dollars per head corn is worth from 50 cts to six bits per bushel pork is worth from four to six per ---all the other property in proportion
Dear Cousin I want to see you very bad I want you to come to see us this spring or next summer. Texas is the best country in the world. If you want to marry just com to Texas there is more pretty girls here than a few--
Orphila received a letter from Alexander yesterday. We were glad to hear that you were all well. Father has received two letters from Uncle James A. Brown since Orphila was in your country he writes that he and family are well and doing well and that Orinda Humes is married. He did not state who she married.
Father received a letter from Cousin Robert Mitchell on the 13 this t...their sale come off the eighth of last month. Aunt Isabell took her thirds out of all the property and the debts had to come out of the rest of their property and then what is left goes to the children.
As I have nothing of interest to write I must bring my lines to a close. You must excuse my bad writing and spelling as today is Sunday and I am in a very great hurry and I have not seen the gals today.
Write soon and give me all the news. So nothing more but remains Your affectionate Cousin until death.
                                                                                                                Farewell
                                                                                                    Oscar M. Brown.
